Alvin Rambano:

Who Will Forget “C”?

As months passed, I expect that the lessons in C Language will be hard and even harder, complicated and even more complicated especially this “fourth-time around”. Yes! It’s already fourth grading but this doesn’t mean that I have to be confident in Computer Science. It is true that we cannot escape from our expectations because every matter counts, human being has his own expectations. Like me, I have so many “hopes” and “wishes”. “Sana ganito…,sana ganoon…”,sometimes I say to myself. I expect that Ms. Gallardo will give many quizzes and hands-on exercises but I understand that all of these will help us understand the lessons or her lectures. And for all of these I thank you ma’am. I hope that my score in the Fourth Periodic Exam will become higher compared to that of in the Third Grading. Of course, I don’t want my grade in CSIII to decrease, now that it is already the last quarter. It is not good to see in my report card that my final grade in CSIII is low. So I’m trying my very best to study for me to learn even more this last quarter. I listened very well to my teacher’s lecture. I practiced writing a valid C program. I participated and cooperated in every hands-on exercise. And I will show to Ms. Gallardo that she became a good CS teacher to me, to us people of section Mendel, and I appreciate all her efforts for us to really learn. And I know that all of these can help me during my college life. I am thankful to God because He gave me strength, guidance and support in every challenge I encountered.

My memorable experiences are just the same in the past three quarters. I could say that the memorable events I have experienced are the hands-on exercises of each group. I was very excited when there was a hands-on exercise that each group must finish at a given time or earlier than that to gain higher score. For me, this event is like a race that each player is serious and focused, all aiming for the gold. But as the race was over, all players are happy and enjoyed the experience or moment in that race. One time, we were very happy because we’re the only group (Group 9-TIAMMY) that understands how to do that particular program and so we got 10 points!!!

On the other hand, my embarrassing moments are: When there is a new lesson in CS and Ma’am will ask some questions and no one in our section can answer that. For example is when she asked what an array is. Everybody was quiet. So Ma’am asked if that was the first time we heard the word “array”. Oh! That is an embarrassing experience. But now I learned that array is a collection of two or more adjacent memory cells. I was also confused with the lesson “nested for” because I was absent when Ma’am Gallardo taught that lesson. I don’t know what is its difference in relation to for statement.

I could say that until now, it is quite difficult to write completely a valid and correct C program alone. Maybe it is better if there is assistance from other group members or if we have teamwork and cooperation in hands-on exercises. Still, it is easier for me to write the output of a given program than to write a whole program.

As a whole, of course my main goal is to get a high grade in Computer Science III this last grading period. I can make it if I will study harder and comply with all my requirements for example projects. I will improve or even change my weaknesses and I will develop my strengths and lastly I will try my best to regain the trust and love of C Language to me. Who will forget “C”? I think…nobody!

Ron Ryan G. Tiamzon

Fourth grading, as well as the school year, is going to be over in a week or two. This quarter is not a trouble-free one. The problems encountered during this quarter are more intricate than in 1st-3rd quarter. The application of what you have learned from 1st-3rd quarter as well as the fourth grading is needed. I’m very happy because this school year we tackled about computer programming. Honestly, I thought that it is easy as one, two, three but I was wrong. This subject is very complicated. It requires bright minds to make your way through this subject. It is not that regular subject that can pass through your store knowledge. You should master all the syntax to make a correct program.

I am very lucky to have such group mates as my group mates in this subject because they taught me a lot. My role in our group is the typist that’s why I need to memorize all the syntax of what I am going to type. I am happy because our teacher teaches us all those syntax that helped me a lot.

There are many things to do before you come up with a very good program. I really had a nice time learning and understanding this subject with our teacher, Ms. Gallardo. She is a very good teacher and I can say that she memorized this subject because by simply looking at our programs, she could easily detect the errors that we have made and help us to make it correct. She is really a nice teacher and she is amazing!
